The First of Many Firsts

September 9, 2015 12:39 by ehouston

So, my heart walked right out of my chest and onto a bus for the first time yesterday morning.  I spent the next 7 hours and 45 minutes wondering.  What a helpless feeling knowing I could not be there to protect (nut allergies) or to comfort when he needed me.

Then the big yellow bus came back and out popped my heart.  It was smiling, happy and full.

Hope everyone had an uneventful first day of school!

It Was A Tear Free Week

September 16, 2011 06:34 by ehouston

Well, almost.  I think I made a few people choke up with the post on Monday and of course I cried my eyes out all day over the changes that are coming.  But, the week ended on a happy note!  The Little Guy jumped right in on the first day.  Well, I should say he went, allowed me to leave without him and came back home with no fussing in between.  At least that’s what his teacher told me.  She said his day seemed to go well, that he asked about me a few times, but looked at his pictures and was fine.  She did mention that he held back a bit, but was otherwise okay being “on his own” so to speak.  While this broke my heart a little because I have to admit now that he is growing up , I definitely felt relief knowing that he was not upset and agitated the whole time we were apart.  That was my biggest fear and I was so happy to hear he took a different path.  Now all I have to worry about is getting him to actually interact with the other kids, which is the main reason I wanted him in preschool at this age- he is super shy and I want to assist in getting him out of his shell.  As one mom friend said on the playground today, “he’s only been twice!”  True that!  Okay, I will take it down a notch.

It has been really sweet to watch him gather his tote bag with his snack (and bear) and head out for the car.

In fact, yesterday he brought me my shoes, which is his not-so-subtle way of saying, “hurry up Mom!”  So, I guess he is liking it.  At least he is liking his teachers.  Even though I think I have heard enough about them for a while.  ;o)  (Just kidding.  It’s hard to have another woman take your spot.  I can deal with it when grandma’s are around for visits, but this one is a little tougher to swallow.  I know, it’s the first of many teacher crushes.  Especially with my flirty Little Guy!)

The one thing I was not expecting was the overwhelming feeling of not knowing what to do with the extra time I have gained.  It’s a whole 6 hours per week, which in my world is HUGE!  Unfortunately, all the planning ahead did not help me accomplish half of what I set out to do during this bonus time.  I am trying to give myself a break, though, because some unforeseen factors changed up my timeline.  Tuesday I had planned a whirlwind sewing extravaganza for a new product I want to start selling, but only managed one prototype in the space allotted for four.  Bummer.  After sewing for what seemed like just a blink I had to clean up and move on to the grocery store so that we would have something to eat that night.  Then on Thursday I hightailed it over to The Clothesline Kids Consignment Sale after morning drop off.  A friend had told me it was a good one and she was right!  I felt like it was a necessity to move my schedule around to accommodate this because, A) I could not handle having the Little Guy with me during this event and B) He needed some things that I really did not want to pay full price for, like a winter coat, sweaters/sweatshirts and nice shoes.  I figured if I was going to try to save my money and sanity I better make it happen.  I did score some really nice things for very little payout, but an hour and a half later I was just making my way to the car and back home.  Oh well, there’s always next week right?

I think next Tuesday might start a bit more like this…

Seger, Chivas, undies and all!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
